Are you an aspiring writer? Have you thought, "I have lots of great ideas for a story!" Would you like to work with published writers with proven track records? And would you like to work with a group that asks nothing from you other than you should write well, enjoy writing, meet deadlines, and help others? You are in the right place to learn more.
The 2010 Writer's Cadre is a diverse group of writers working together to develop and publish an anthology of short stories that will promote the work of the contributing authors. Proceeds from the anthology help reduce hunger and illness in sub-Sahara Africa.
Has this been done before?Yes. We called the first effort the "Shameless Shorts Project." Seventeen authors participated in developing the short-story anthology. This Kindle book, "The Shameless Shorts Anthology," has been a best-seller on Amazon and continues to generate royalties to support ending hunger and illness in sub-Sahara Africa.
Belonging to the Cadre does not require any costs or fees. Each Cadre member is a volunteer; no Cadre member is compensated financially.
If you would like to know more, review www.tenparinc.com/2010wc or contact Dave Blankinship. If you would like to learn more about the charity the Cadre supports, go to The Praxis Ethiopia Foundation.
Joining the Cadre is by invitation. To be considered, a writer must be at least 18 years old.
The first step in the process of applying for Cadre membership is to submit an introductory hook. You may do this by submitting a short piece (not exceeding 420 characters, including spaces) for review, using the form below. This writing sample must be original and it cannot be a work that has already been published.
Your story should be targeted at the PG-13 story level or lower. Please do not use language or topics that would be inappropriate for young adults. If you do, we will reject your submission and you will have missed your opportunity.
A panel of Senior Associates will review the introductory hook. They will be assessing appropriateness, coherency, interest, and clarity of expression. Authors who meet these standards will be asked to submit a flash-fiction story (500 or fewer words) based on the hook.
All rights to the original creative works remain the property of the respective writers.
The panel of Senior Associates will review the entries and select the stories they believe have the most potential for meeting the Cadre's objectives. The authors of these stories will be invited to join the Cadre and begin participating in the develop activities.
Each author invited to join should be prepared to dedicate time to writing his or her anthology story, and critiquing stories written by other authors.
Each author who is invited to join and accepts the invitation should be prepared to submit a photograph (about 150 pixel by 150 pixels) and a brief biographical sketch for inclusion on the biography page.
